KAPPAROT - כפרות
Kapparot is an important traditional ritual, that has been performed before Yom Kippur throughout the Jewish world for over 1400 years.
Whilst for many this ritual consists of the use of a chicken, many others have the custom of doing this with charity money that amounts to the value of a chicken (some use multiples of 18 - Chai), which is then donated in its place with the same result achieved.
This custom should ideally be performed at home, please find the instructions and text for Kapparot HERE
For those who won't otherwise be performing this custom, we are offering to do this on your behalf on Erev Yom Kippur. Please include the following details in the form below:
• A contribution of $18.00 per member of the household
• If there is a pregnant woman, choose 3 X $18.00 which amounts to $54.00. This covers the unborn child and mother (the custom is due to the fact that we do not know if it will be a boy or girl so we give for both)
• Include a list of the family members (ideally the name of each person and their mother’s name) to be included in the kapparot
